Save these dates for the main skin cancer event in Australia for 2010
Our presenters are all Australian based and will provide relevant local content. Presenters will focus on areas on the body where cutaneous oncology diagnosis and / or management can be difficult - "Awkward areas" is our theme. Presenters include :
Professor Peter Soyer One of the foremost world experts on dermoscopy and dermoscopy – pathology correlation. He has published extensively in journals and print. Originally from Graz, Austria, Professor Soyer is now Professor of Dermatology at University of Queensland based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane.
Dr Pascale Guitera is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatology. Pacale originally completed her Dermatology and Research Fellowship at the prestigious Marie Curie Institute in Paris, France.
Subsequently, Pascale completed her PhD entitled, “New imaging methods for the diagnosis of primary cutaneous melanoma and its metastasis“ She is considered a world authority on Confocal reflectance laser microscopy.
We welcome Pascale to our faculty for the first time. She will update us on new imaging technology and the emerging role of this technology in skin cancer diagnosis.

Professor Scott Menzies Scott is well known to ACSCM through his contributions to our dermoscopy training programs. Scott is the Director of the Sydney Melanoma Diagnostic Centre & a Professor of Medicine, (Discipline of Dermatology) at the University of Sydney.
Scott's text, Dermoscopy: An Atlas, 3rd Ed is the recommended text for members to further their dermoscopy diagnostic knowledge. Scott has been researching and treating patients with skin cancer since 1988. Scott has given over 150 conference invited presentations on skin cancer and is currently a member of 10 skin cancer advisory committees. Scott as over 90 publications on the subject of skin cancer. Scott is one of very few Australian medical practitioners with a PhD through research into skin cancer. We welcome Scott's return to our faculty for 2010 conference.

Dr Lewis Levitz is an oculoplastic surgeon & is one of the inventors of the orbital implant. His research skills were recognised with the Tetje Patterson Ophthalmic research award. Apart from cataract surgery, Lewis has a special interest in eyelid issues. Lewis has presented at our conference in 2008 and 2009.
This year Lewis will present to us the dilemmas faced when skin cancer grows on or near the medial and lateral canthus. Lewis will also revise the lacrimal system for us, detailing this issues pertinent to skin cancer surgery. Lewis recently moved from Queensland to Melbourne where his oculoplastic skills are now in much demand.
Dr Luke Stradwick is a fully qualified Australian trained Plastic Surgeon and fellow of the Royal Australiasian College of Surgeons.
Dr Paul Belt has completed an extensive training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery over a period of more than seven years. This training was in addition to his basic medical and surgical degrees and tertiary postgraduate qualifications in General Surgery. He has also completed a Fellowship in Oxford after obtaining his Plastic Surgical qualification from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Plast).
Dr Shyamala Huilgol is a Mohs surgeon based in Adelaide and is co-author of The Australian Mohs Database publications.
Dr Margaret Oziemski Dr Margaret Oziemski obtained her Fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 1994 after graduating in Medicine in Melbourne in 1986. She has been a practicing Dermatologist since, moving to Queensland with her family in 1995 from Victoria. She has an active role in education of her patients and professional bodies and has established a not for profit website outlining sun awareness and sunsafety, including vitamin D information entitled http://www.sunsafetyqld.com.au/ . She has held positions on the Dermatology Assessment Team for QCOMP, as well as being a Representative of the Australasian College of Dermatologists on the National Skin Cancer Steering Committee and has been a Representative of the Queensland Branch of the Australasian College of Dermatologists on the Queensland Public Health Forum Skin Cancer Prevention Working Group. She continues a private dermatology practice in Brisbane.
Dr Gabrielle M Caswell is an Australian trained medical doctor and the current President of the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia . Gabrielle is trained to administer cosmetic injectables and anti-aging technology, physician strength skin peels and uses a Dual Yellow® Class 4 medical laser for the remediation of sun damaged skin and non-scarring lesion removal.

Dr Helena Rosengren is Vice-President of the College and also a senior lecturer at James Cook University where she teaches skin biology. Helena also practises skin cancer medicine in Townsville, Queensland.
Helena will present some of her original research at our 2010 conference. Helena is a core member of College education team, presenting in all aspects of skin cancer management including dermoscopy, surgery, infection control, diagnostics, pharmaceutical management & reconstruction. Helena is also involved in our nurse education programs.

Dr Eugene Petcu is Senior Lecturer, Pathology at Griffith University
Michelle Avramidis is the Director of Skintography and has been involved in scientific research since graduating from BSc at the University of Sydney in 1996. After working in multiple research fields she began her work in skin cancer in 1998. For ten years she worked at the Sydney Melanoma Unit at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. This unit has the largest database of melanoma patients in the world. She has been trained and worked with the world’s leading melanoma experts – Professor Scott Menzies, the now retired Emeritus Professor William McCarthy and Professor John Thompson.
She has a special interest in Total Body Photography and digital skin monitoring and to date has photographed over 5000 patients equating to over 15,000 lesions. She has been involved in the development and instrumentation for the diagnosis of melanoma which subsequently won the 2005 Bradfield Award: Engineering Excellence Awards, Sydney Division. She is maintaining an active interest in leading edge reflectance confocal microscopy. She currently has 10 publications on the subject of skin cancer.
CPR
A CPR course will also be available for those who are required to undertake this training as part of their ongoing QA&CPD. The Queensland Ambulance Service is conducting this as an optional course on the Saturday afternoon, which is accredited with RACGP and ACRRM.

Medical Student Essay Competition - Again in 2010 we are holding a competition for the best essay by a medical student, to be judged during the Annual Conference weekend. There is no specific criteria, this is left to the author. The title this year is “The Relevance of Sun Exposure Prevention to the Australian Society”. The essay should be no more than 1,000 words and can be submitted to the College at admin@skincancercollege.com The deadline for receipt of essays is Wednesday 25 August 2010.
The prize is $250 from Dynek Sutures.

Charity.
The Australasian College of Skin Cancer Medicine is registered as a charity. It is a College policy that no speaker be paid for a presentation or participation at our Annual Scientific Meeting. All of our faculty listed above are donating their services. The College will be paying for their major expenses. The College wishes to recognise and thank our speakers for their significant donation to skin cancer education.
College policy specifies that no person or party shall in any way profit from the Annual Scientific Meeting. Any profit from the event will be directed to further skin cancer research, education and training. Our conference convenors are not paid for their contribution to this meeting. Indeed they are required to meet all their own expenses, including airfares and accommodation to attend our conference.
Format.
Our conference will comprise lectures from our faculty above as well as "Masters Panel" sessions. These involve case presentations of problems to our panels. Each panel will include 4 experts. All of our faculty above will contribute to the Masters Panel Sessions.
